Safety & Studio Rules
# Safety & Studio Rules
**Last updated: June 24, 2026**
To keep everyone safe and comfortable, please follow these rules while at the Saskatoon Clayworks studio.
## What to Wear
- **Closed-toe shoes are required** at all times in the studio.
- Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty — clay and glaze can stain.
- Aprons are provided at the studio, or you're welcome to bring your own.
## Equipment Use
- **Pottery wheels and kilns may only be used under instructor supervision.** Do not operate this equipment on your own or without permission.
- Follow your instructor's directions for handling tools, glazes, and materials.
- Report any equipment issues, spills, or breakages to a staff member or instructor right away.
## Food & Drink
- Water and other non-alcoholic drinks are permitted **only in capped or closable bottles** — no open cups, mugs, or glasses near clay or equipment.
- No food is permitted in the studio at any time.
- No alcohol is permitted on the premises.
## General Conduct
- Treat instructors, staff, and other participants with respect.
- Do not handle, use, or remove other participants' work or materials without permission.
- Follow instructor guidance at all times, especially around equipment and kiln areas.
- If you feel unwell, get injured, or notice a hazard, tell a staff member immediately.
## Assumption of Risk
Pottery-making involves inherent risks, including but not limited to the use of sharp tools, moving equipment (such as pottery wheels), and high-heat equipment (such as kilns). By participating in a class, workshop, or event at Saskatoon Clayworks, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow the safety rules outlined above.
*(Note: you mentioned wanting a formal signed waiver down the line — this clause is a lighter-weight stand-in for now. Happy to draft a full liability waiver/release whenever you're ready to add one; it's worth having a lawyer review a signed waiver before rolling it out, since enforceability rules vary.)*
